In the past 11 years, it has been possible to collect more than 150,000 children’s picture books for redistribution to babies,
toddlers, and other young children on the Peninsula. That’s about ten times the number of books in most elementary school
libraries. The majority of these books were donated through schools in Saanich District. Thank you so much!
Research indicates that home libraries have significant positive effects on the literacy
development of young children and their early success in school. Success begets
success. For these reasons, the PENINSULA “1000 X 5” Project work will continue
through to the end of June, over the summer, and throughout the next school year.
Please continue to donate books your children have outgrown and encourage them
to share the gift of literacy with others.
