End of Week Message - 3 June 2022

A bit of a grab bag for today's end of week message.

  • Recently there has been a significant increase in the number of student absences that have not been reported to the school.  This leads to a lot of worry and time spent by office staff each morning while ensuring that your child is safe at home.  Please e-mail your child's classroom teacher and keating_attendance@saanichschools.ca each day that your child is not in attendance.
  • We are working on a few things as a send-off for our grade 5s.  One will be a day at Heritage Acres on June 17th.  This was an event started last year and which received great reviews from all involved.  Although this is not an event open to families, we will require a few parent volunteers at points in the day.  More information to follow in the first half of next week.
  • Also with regard to our grade 5s, we are planning a brief event (tentatively 3:30 on Monday, June 27th) where the students will be able to perform a song that they are working on with Mr. Jung (the awesome music teacher here at Keating), we hope to share a slideshow, and we will present each student with a grade 5 certificate.  This is intended as the first such event that parents can attend in the past 3 years.  Although it will be a short event, I am sure that it will be a lot of fun, so please "save the date."
  • Please see the attached poster for information regarding a short work party being organized by the wonderful Greening Committee.  This work party is scheduled for this coming Friday, the 10th from 3:30-5:00.  Hot dogs and refreshments for volunteers. smile
  • Next week, there will be a form in this space for parent input into the placement process for class building for the coming school year.  In the overwhelming majority of cases, this form is not necessary to complete, but if you feel that there is something that staff may not be aware of and should consider during class creation, you will have the opportunity to submit that via the online form until the end of next week.  Please note that requests for particular teachers will be discarded, and all information submitted is to be done in a respectful manner.  Thank you.

Wishing you a safe and happy weekend!
